Description

Strength, Support, Breathing, Posture & Self-Awareness

The pelvic floor is much more than a group of muscles we are told to “tighten.” Deep within the centre of the pelvis, it is part of a dynamic network that participates in movement, breathing, posture, stability — and our sense of ourselves.

What is it about?

In this Feldenkrais workshop, we will take time to get to know the pelvic floor from the inside. Through gentle, attentive movements, you will explore where these muscles are, how you can sense them, and how they contract, release and adapt to different situations.

This is not a conventional pelvic floor exercise class. Before asking the pelvic floor to become stronger, it is valuable to first get to know it from the inside: to sense where it is, recognise when it contracts and releases, and distinguish its activity from the movements of the pelvis and surrounding muscles.

The Feldenkrais Method offers this sensory exploration as a first step towards functional strength. Through gentle, exploratory movements, we develop awareness, differentiation and coordination — creating a clearer foundation for Kegels or other forms of pelvic floor strengthening. The aim is not simply to do more, but to sense more clearly, so that strengthening can become more precise, adaptable and effective.

We will explore strength without unnecessary tension: discovering how the pelvic floor can develop functional strength not simply by working harder, but through better awareness, differentiation and coordination.

You will also experience the intimate relationship between the pelvic floor and breathing. What happens in the pelvic floor when you inhale? What changes when you exhale? How can breathing and pelvic movement support one another?

The pelvic floor is also deeply connected to posture and movement. Its relationship with the spine, abdomen, diaphragm and pelvis influences how we sit, stand, walk and organise ourselves against gravity. Rather than isolating the pelvic floor, the Feldenkrais Method invites us to discover its place within the whole body.

And there is another dimension: the pelvic floor is often associated with intimacy, vulnerability, protection, pleasure and emotional experience. Without forcing or interpreting these experiences, mindful movement can open a space to notice how emotions and bodily sensations may be reflected in patterns of holding, relaxing and moving.

Join us and discover the part of yourself you rarely think about — yet that influences so much of how you move, breathe, stand, walk and feel.
